In 2017, we partnered with the NBA to give their Development League (D League) a new name the Gatorade League (G League). This innovative hub is where players train and grow, as they attempt to make the roster of an NBA team.
As part of development, we bring in the GSSI (Gatorade Sports Science Institute) to work with athletes to create customized hydration plans, do nutrition counseling, and conduct recovery research to optimize their performance.
The competition in the G League is fierce, so any advantage can make a huge difference in getting noticed and making an NBA roster. That’s where we come in. Gatorade, through the GSSI, works with each athlete to understand their unique body and hydration needs. We do this by applying a sweat patch – an innovative sticker technology that captures sweat and allows our scientists to understand body chemistry and makeup. By monitoring sweat and other factors, our team helps create a custom hydration plan complete with a sweat profile so players know how to prepare and stay hydrated through future games.
“It's all about learning. A lot of young guys come into this league without knowing how to properly take care of themselves.”
